Prague Shopping

The quantity and quality of products available in the Czech Republic has improved dramatically over the past decade, with the most prominent changes noticeable in Prague, where a number of new hypermarkets and Western-style shopping malls appeared in the last several years.

Opening Hours

Stores outside of Prague tend to open at 8 or 9 a.m. (larger grocery stores at 7 a.m.) and close at 6 or 7 p.m. Some stores are closed during lunch hours. The hours are shorter on Saturdays and most stores are closed on Sundays.

Some stores in Prague have longer hours - large grocery stores stay open until 8 or 10 p.m., or even later - and are also open on weekends.

Most stores are closed on Christmas and Easter.

Currencies Accepted

The official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown and it is the best (and often the only possible) currency to use. The Czech Republic is not part of the European Union yet and the Euro is not widely accepted there. Some stores, restaurants and hotels accept payments in Euro but the exchange rate may not be the best.
