Osaka - Kansai International Airport
Kansai International Airport, a man-made island built on sinking seabed 5 kilometers (3 miles) from shore, handles about 20 million passengers a year. Since this is Japan, you can expect efficient rail service to any part of Osaka - the distance is about 50 kilometers to the city center.
If convenience is your priority, you can take the "Haruka" express trains, which will whisk you downtown in 50 minutes for about 2,900 yen. If youre headed for Kyoto, the ride will take 75 minutes.
By taxi, it takes an hour to get from the airport to the city, longer when traffic is bad. Fare to downtown Osaka costs 19,000 yen.
There is an airport bus service that can take you to Osakas main rail station for only 1,700 yen. If youre headed to Kobe, theres a high-speed jetfoil that will shuttle you across the bay in 27 minutes. The round-trip fare, including bus service to central Kobe, is 4,560 yen.
