Etiquette

Email discussion groups are a great source of ideas and information - and can lead to great friendships. Emails to the list are automatically broadcast to all members. To get the most out of a group there are a few generally accepted rules:

  • Remember that you are speaking to a group of people - and you don't always know who they are. Be cautious about providing personal information about yourself or others.
  • One idea per email, with the topic clearly in the subject line, makes ongoing discussions and debates more manageable.
  • Short paragraphs with lots of white space are easier to read on screen.
  • Quote only what is necessary to retain the sense of an email in your responses.
